FMS-Manager - Natural Language Administration for FileMaker Server

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

nBNC Software Announces FMS-Manager: Talk to Your FileMaker Server #

The first natural language administration layer for Claris FileMaker Server — now seeking field testers #

Barcelona, June 2026 — nBNC Software today announced FMS-Manager, a new commercial product that lets FileMaker Server administrators manage their infrastructure by simply talking to it. Instead of navigating admin panels, memorising API syntax, or scheduling manual checks, administrators type — or say — what they need, in any language, and FMS-Manager handles the rest. Beyond the built-in chat interface, FMS-Manager also exposes a REST API and a Model Context Protocol (MCP) service, so it integrates directly with personal AI agents such as Claude Desktop, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible client.

“The FileMaker Server Admin API exposes tremendous power. The problem is that using it requires technical knowledge that most administrators should not have to carry in their heads,” said Francesc Sans, founder of nBNC Software. “FMS-Manager closes that gap. You describe what you want. The system figures out how to do it safely, confirms when needed, and gives you a plain-language answer.”

Just ask #

FMS-Manager connects directly to the Claris FileMaker Server Admin REST API — all 95+ endpoints across 14 functional categories — and makes every one of them accessible through a conversational interface. There is no command syntax to learn. Examples of what administrators can say on day one:

Databases
💬 What databases are currently open on the production server?
💬 Close the Contacts database — I need to do maintenance
💬 Open the Invoices database on staging
💬 Upload the new version of the CRM file and open it
Connected clients
💬 Who is currently connected to the production server?
💬 How many clients are on the Contacts database right now?
💬 Disconnect Marco from the Invoices database — he left for the day
💬 Send a message to all connected users: server will restart in 10 minutes
Backups and schedules
💬 When was the last backup of the Contacts database? Did it succeed?
💬 Create a daily backup schedule for the Invoices database at 02:00
💬 Run the weekly backup now, I can’t wait until tonight
💬 Show me all configured schedules and flag any that are disabled or failed
💬 Rename the nightly backup schedule and change its time to 03:30
💬 Delete the old test backup schedule
Certificates and security
💬 What is the state of the SSL certificate on production? When does it expire?
💬 Renew the Let’s Encrypt certificate on the staging server
💬 Show me the current security configuration
💬 What external authentication providers are configured?
Data API, Web Publishing, and plugins
💬 Is the FileMaker Data API enabled on production?
💬 Enable WebDirect on the staging server
💬 What plugins are loaded on the database server engine?
💬 Show me the current Data API usage statistics
License
💬 How many connections are we using on the production license?
💬 What percentage of our license capacity are we at right now?
Server health and audit
💬 Give me a full health overview of the production server
💬 What happened on the staging server overnight?
💬 Show me the last 20 admin operations on production
💬 Were there any errors in the last 24 hours? Give me a summary
💬 Which databases have had the most connection errors this week?
💬 Has anything been changed on production in the last 48 hours?

Every command is backed by a live API call. Every result — success or failure — is written to an append-only audit log before the response is returned. Nothing happens silently.

Built-in intelligence: it knows what can go wrong #

FMS-Manager does not just execute commands. When something is broken or behaving unexpectedly, it searches a curated knowledge base of FileMaker Server error patterns, the official FileMaker Admin Guide, and the history of past interactions to give doc-backed, contextual answers:

💬 Why is the Contacts database not opening?
💬 I’m getting error 802 when users try to connect. What does that mean?
💬 The last three backups on production failed. What should I check?

The knowledge base grows with use. Successful resolutions are fed back into it, making the system progressively more useful the longer it runs.

Safety that matches the stakes #

FMS-Manager distinguishes between reading and acting, and between staging and production. Destructive operations — disconnecting clients, closing databases, deleting schedules, importing certificates — require explicit confirmation before execution. On production-environment servers, a second confirmation is required: the administrator must type the server name to proceed.

Admin💬 Disconnect all clients from the Invoices database on production
FMS-Manager💬 This will disconnect 14 clients from Production FMS. Confirm? (yes/no)
Admin💬 yes
FMS-Manager💬 Production FMS is a production server. Type the server name to confirm:
Admin💬 production
FMS-Manager💬 Done. 14 clients disconnected

No operation bypasses this flow. No operation goes unlogged.

Fleet management: one interface for every server #

FMS-Manager is built for multi-server environments from the ground up. Administrators register each FileMaker Server instance once — name, host, and credentials, stored encrypted — and then address any of them by name within the same conversation:

💬 Switch to the client-B server
💬 Now show me its open databases
💬 Compare the client count on client-A and client-B

Every command, every metric, and every alert is tagged to the specific server it came from. The entire fleet can be monitored from a single interface.

Automated monitoring: it watches when you are not looking #

FMS-Manager runs continuous, scheduled health checks across the entire server fleet without any manual intervention. Every day, for every registered server:

💬 Server running state and uptime
💬 Open and closed database inventory — unexpected closures trigger an alert immediately
💬 Connected client count against configured capacity thresholds
💬 Backup schedule status — failed or skipped backups fire an alert
💬 SSL certificate expiry — warning issued a configurable number of days before expiry
💬 License seat usage against configured capacity thresholds
💬 Admin API response time — performance degradation is detected and logged

Metrics are stored historically in PostgreSQL. At any time, the administrator can ask:

💬 How has the client count on production trended over the last two weeks?
💬 Has the API response time on staging been getting worse?
💬 Give me a fleet overview — which servers have open alerts right now?

Field Testing Program #

FMS-Manager is currently seeking field testers to validate the system across different FileMaker Server environments and use cases. Early participants will receive priority access to new features, direct influence on product development, dedicated technical support, and special licensing terms.
